General Visa Information
All foreign nationals (except Indian nationals) require a visa to enter Nepal. Visas are obtainable from embassies abroad or on arrival at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport. There have been instances when passengers were asked to show return flight tickets. You will also need to provide two passport size photos and the following fees in US dollars acceptable in cash.
- Multi entry visa valid for 15 days – $25 USD
- Multi entry visa valid for 30 days – $40 USD
- Multi entry visa valid for 90 days – $100 USD
If you are staying in Nepal for less than 24 hours while in transit, a transit visa can be issued on presentation of your international flight ticket; there is a nominal charge of $5 USD.
Note: No visa fee is charged for duration up to 30 days for the nationals of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member countries.
Please note that visas are the responsibility of the individual travelers. Make sure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date. Be sure to check the date you require a visa from and the length of time you will need to cover, especially if you change countries during your trip.
Tourist Visa Extension Facility
- Visa extension fee for the period of 15 days – $ 30 USD
- Visa extension fee for the period of more than 15 days – $ 2 USD per day
- Visa can be extended for a maximum period of 150 days in one year (January – December) at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu.

5. Immigration Office, Belahia, Bhairahawa (Rupandehi, Western Nepal)
6. Immigration Office, Jamunaha, Nepalgunj (Banke, Mid Western Nepal)
7. Immigration Office, Mohana, Dhangadhi (Kailali, Far Western Nepal)
8. Immigration Office, Gadda Chauki, Mahendranagar (Kanchanpur, Far Western Nepal)
Other Information for foreign nationals
- Travelers who intend to visit Nepal must hold valid passport and visa.
- A tourist may stay in Nepal up to 150 days in a 1 year (Jan-Dec).
- A foreigner must extend his/her visa before expiry of the visa validity period. A tourist who does not comply with these regulations may be liable of fine and prosecution as per Nepal Immigration Act and Rules.
- A foreigner having obtained tourist visa shall not be allowed to work with or without receiving remuneration.
- A foreigner shall not be allowed to carry out any work other than that for which purpose s/he has obtained the visa
