The Karnali is Nepal’s longest and largest river and with its tributaries, it drains most of the Far west of Nepal – the ‘wild west’. The area that it flows through is wild and relatively unpopulated with some of the most pristine jungle scenery in Nepal, and abundant wildlife. We fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and drive for five hours to the town of Surkhet in western Nepal. After two days ‘ lovely trek we reach the put –in point called Sauli. After covering 180 km of this amazing river we reach Chisopani, our take out point. You can end this trip with a visit to Bardia National Park for an unbeatable combination.

Seti River offers beautiful mountain views and also unique river passing through two beautiful and contrasting scenic areas of Manaslu and Annapurna regions.

Most of the year, the Seti is famous for its dazzling scenery is a gentle river, attracting families, bird watchers, nature lovers and dreamers. However, during the monsoon, its swollen rapids prove an exciting test for experienced rafters and kayakers. The luxuriant vegetation visible along the river is a remnant of the vast forested area, which once covered the middle hills of Nepal. This area is inhabited by Magar who are renowned for generations of service with the Gurkha forces.

The warm and beautiful Seti river passes through stunning jungle scenery, green hills and valleys. It is very popular for family trips. Also it is an excellent river for bird watchers and those interested in the abundance of nature found on this trip.

The put-in point for the Seti River, Damauli is 5 Hours from Kathmandu. If you join the trip from Pokhara, it is just 1 hour from there. The take-out point at Gaighat is roughly 4-5 hours from both Kathmandu and Pokhara.

Kali Gandaki River

One of the famous names of Himalayan Rivers, the Kali Gandki raises in mustang an enclave of Nepal poking into Tibet on the other side of the Himalaya. Here it is a flat and braided river flowing in an arid open valley and cuts one of the deepest gorges in the world between Daulagiri height 8167 m to the west and Annapurna 8091 m to the east.

The beautiful scenery on this remote river makes it a favorite among those looking for a short trip. The river passes through narrow gorges and canyons, alongside tumbling waterfalls, traditional Magar and Chettri villages.

Bhote Koshi River

The Bhote Koshi is regarded as one of the best short white water rafting trips in the world. It is the steepest river that is rafted in Nepal with continuous rapid action making this river a full-on commitment and a huge adrenaline rush. This is an ideal trip for those wanting a short but intense and thrilling rafting trip.

The put-in point for the Bhote Koshi River is Baseri about 4 hours north-east of Kathmandu. The take -out point is Dam approximately 3 hours drive to Kathmandu. The non-stop rapids will keep you busy and exhilarated every minute- just no time to see the scenery around. ‘’Bhote” roughly translates as “river from Tibet so there are quite a lot of rivers with this name in Nepal.

This Bhote Koshi is the main branch of the Sun Koshi. The river is followed by the Araniko highway so access and scouting are relatively easy. The upper valley above Bahrabise is impressively narrow with steep hill sides shooting up over 2000m from the river. Bhote Kosi is probably the most exciting short rafting trip in Nepal and best white water adventure in the world.

Trishuli River

The Trishuli is an ideal river for those looking for a short trip without the challenge of huge rapids, but with beautiful scenery and a relatively peaceful environment. First timers can also enjoy this river. The point for the Trishuli River is Chauraundi or Fishing located just 3 to 3.5 hours west of Kathmandu making it an excellent choice for short trips, or for clients en route to Pokhara or Chitwan National Park.

Rafting in Nepal

Nepal has earned the reputation as one of the best destinations in the world for white water rafting. Nepal’s thundering rivers, coming from the glaciers of the mighty Himalaya, provide unmatched thrills for rafting and immersing oneself in the landscape. A rafting trip is bound to be the highlight of your stay in the country. Besides the spectacular rivers, the superb mountain scenery and a rich cultural heritage are the added benefits for the tourists. No other country has such a choice of trips on wild rivers with warm water, a sub tropical climate and huge white –sand beaches ideal for camping.

Rafting along Nepal’s mountain rivers has become increasingly popular and Nepal has become almost as well-known for its Whitewater rafting as for its trekking. In fact, many of the adventure trips to Nepal now combine a trek with a rafting expedition, and a visit to wildlife at Chitwan National Park. It is also interesting to note that rafting on a commercial scale was unknown in Nepal till 1978. The rafting trips mainly take place on the Sun Kosi, the Trisuli and the Kali Gandaki rivers. Rafting in two of Nepal’s far western rivers – Kamali and Bheri has recently been introduced. It is expected that few more rivers will also be opened for rafting soon.

Our agency shall organize your rafting tour, which generally last from about three to nine days and there are between7 to 17 people on each trip. Each raft will have an experienced helmsman, to ensure you stay upright through the tricky bits.

The rafting season follows the trekking season very closely. As with trekking the monsoon is unsuitable. It’s cloudy, damp and miserable and the rivers are often too high. In October, with the close of the monsoon conditions are at their best. The weather is clear, the harvests are on and the rivers are running well with run-off from the monsoon. Winter can, as for trekking a bit chilly but that doesn’t stop the rafting enthusiasts. With spring it is warmer and melting snow from the high peaks again provides good river conditions. Most of the raft able rivers are quite low in altitude as they range from 500 to 1000 m. During summer (May-June) just before the monsoon it could get quite hot at this altitude you can raft.
