The walk up to the Annapurna Base Camp is a classic walk right into the heart of the mountains. The walk ends at a point where you are virtually surrounded by soaring Himalayan peaks. At one time, this trek was a real expedition into an uninhabited wilder¬ness area, but now there are a string of lodges that operate during the trekking season. The return trip takes 12 to 16 days and the walk to the base camp can be tacked on as a side trip from the Jomsom or Annapurna Circuit treks.

Mustang is one of the recently opened areas for limited trekking groups. It was the former Buddhist kingdom of Lo, extended to the upper Kali Gandaki River, which has carved the deepest gorge in the world between Dhaulagiri and Annapurnas. Mustang has a long and rich history that makes one of the most interesting places in Nepal. There are records of events in Lo as early as 8th century.

The peak of Langtang (7246m) can be seen north of Kathmandu on a clear day. In the course of the trek which takes about two weeks, you will go to a pleasant valley at the foot of the peak passing through rhododendron forest after entering Langtang Natinal Park at Ghora Tabela ((3048m). On the way to Langtang you get good views of Ganesh Himal (7406m).
The trail traverses regions which have remained relatively backward and closed to outside influence. The Sherpa country in the vicinity is an exception, of course, since there have been so many mountaineering expeditions in this area
