Although the itinerary listed here is correct, but occasionally our itineraries are updated during the year to incorporate improvements from past traveler’s comments and our own field experiences. It is also very important that you review all of the travel advise provided by our counselors before couple of days prior to your travel in case there have been changes that affect your plans, you will be notified.
Day 1 Kathmandu
Upon your arrival in Kathmandu, our representative will pick you up at Kathmandu international Airport, and will take you to the hotel booked by you. We will have an important group briefing and our tour guide will inform you where and when this important meeting will take place. Your team leader will collect your local payment on day 1. Kathmandu, the colorful capital of Nepal, is a fascinating blend of traditional architecture and symbols of the 20th Century. It is rich artistic and cultural heritage is evident where ornately carved balconies mingle with beautiful shrines and temples.
If you arrive early, you can sign-up for a day tour to visit to some historical and cultural places such as Durbar Square in Basantapur, the Kumari Devi, who is considered to be a living goddess. Swayambhunath the money temple and witness the Pashupatinath, the most famous and biggest Hindu temple in the world.
Kathmandu is a fascinating mixture of legend and modern development with a rich artistic and cultural heritage. Narrow lanes lead to small squares and courtyards where ornate carved balconies overlook shrines and temples. Crowded markets and bazaars are the centre of Nepali life where stalls and small hole-in-the-wall shops sell everything from bangles to Buddhas to beetroot. Kathmandu has been a travelers’ centre for many years reflected in the international flavor of the bright lights.
Day 2 Nuwakot
A late morning departure for our first day of trekking takes us to the historic village of Nuwakot by way of crisscrossing roads right up to the old palatial site (72 kms, approx. 4 hours). We will take an afternoon excursion to the nearby fort and palace dating back to 16th century. We also spend the night in this beautiful village on the farm.
Day 3 Syabrubesi
After breakfast, embark on a bus journey (approx. 6 hours) on a rugged gravel high-road above the Trisuli river to Syabrubesi where we spend the night before beginning our trek.All the local lodges (teahouses) here are clustered in the local market area. They provide clean, comfortable, twin-bedded private rooms but without the luxuries of city hotels. Toilets and washing facilities are shared and the food is plain and filling. Hot shower facilities available for a price. The teahouses here have access to electricity and running water.
Days 4-14 Langtang Trek
The first day of the trek starts on the east fork, following the gorge of the Langtang Khola. The trail climbs gently uphill with few downhill sections in between. All in all, a fairly easy day, approximately 6 hours trekking, finishing at Lama Hotel (2740m).The entire reaches of this region are rich in birdlife and flowers and also home to the elusive red panda.
Day 5 Langtang (3430m)
Day is spent walking on a steep uphill trail till Ghodatabela. The rest of the trail from this point onwards is much more gradual (approx 6 hours).
Day 6 Kyanjin Gompa (3850m)
Kyangin Gompa is short walk away – it should only take us 3 hours walk. In Kyanjin, not-yet gentrified ‘gompa’ retains the flavor of local reverence. We will have the optional hike to Lantang Glacier (1 hour uphill) in the afternoon. Or, just roam around the village visiting the famous, half a century old, and factory nearby.
Day 7 Lama Hotel (2470m)
We trek back down to Lama Hotel for the night. (approx 6 hours)
Day 8 Thulo Syabru (2130m)
Wading through the jungle and river valley, the initial part of the day is quite a relaxed walk until the start of the uphill trail to the Sherpa village of Thulo Syabru. Day walk and there will be opportunities to view wide array of vegetation and bird species. This particular area is home to 283 species of birds.
Day 9 Laurebina (3900m)
Starting the day with an uphill trail – approx. 1.5 hours through rhododendron forest, before the trail become less strenous but still uphill (approx 5 hours). This day we need to keep our eyes peeled for the elusive red pandas.
Day 10 Gosainkunda (4380m)
The heavenly beauty of the holy lake beckons us this day. Following the trail high up on the ridge it will take us approx. 4 hours to reach the site of sleeping Shiva, as is so believed. You are free to spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the holy lake, other adjacent lakes and the highly venerated shrine.
Day 11 Ghopte (3430m)
Leaving the lakes behind – the trail climbs up to the Laurebina La Pass, making it to the top at 4610m in 2.5 hrs and then inclines down to Ghopte for about 4 hours. The pass is snow capped in winter and at times, demands extreme caution.
Day 12 Tharepati (3510m)
A short day’s trek climbing uphill to a delightful village takes about 2.5 hours. The area is teeming with lush and varied flora and fauna- the principle attraction being red panda and musk deer.
Day 13 Kutumsang (2470m)
The trail to this quite Sherpa village is mostly downhill (approx 5 hours) through forest of blooming rhododendrons of various hues. You should also have excellent views of mountains- notably, Dorje Lakpa, Gaurishanker.
Day 14 Chisapani (2215m)
Starting the day with a gentle climb before dropping downhill to climb again before descending to Pati Bhanjyang for the last stretch of the day’s trek uphill to Chisapani will take for you approx. 7 hours. Our accommodation along the way is at local lodges, better known as teahouses, which are comfortable without being luxurious, toilets and washing facilities are shared and rudimentary, and the food is plain and filling. In a teahouse, we are provided with small private rooms with twin beds, mattresses and pillows. At times, in high seasons, and in places where there are a limited number of teahouses, we may have some nights in dormitories. In some places, teahouses don’’t have access to electricity and depend on solar powered lighting.
Days 15-16 Kathmandu
Up early we have approximatel 5 hours walk in the morning to arrive at the road head at Sundarijal where we will be met by our bus and transferred back to Kathmandu (approx. 1 hour) where we’ll return to our hotel.
There are no activities planned for day 16 and you are able to depart the hotel at any time. Check out time from the hotel is at 12 noon. If you are departing later, you can arrange luggage storage at the hotel.
