Annapurna is considered to be the most famous and popular trekking destination in all of Nepal. The area is dominated by the presence of such peaks as the Annapurnas, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Machhapuchre. These mountains loom in the distance throughout your trek giving you a true Himalayan experience. Trekking through the lowland villages and mountain communities will expose you to the variety of different cultures of the Gurung, Marangi, and Thakali people.

The 322 km trek has been called by many to be not only the most famous trek in Nepal, but also one of the most celebrated treks in the world. A recently published book on Trekking Great Walks of the World (Unwin Hyman, London) called it the ultimate in mountains and the first among ten best treks in the world. A recent book entitled Around the Annapurna written by the writer of these lines gives a village wise description of this trek not found in other guidebooks.

You pass through Dumre on Kathmandu-Pokhara highway and take a micro-bus to Besisahar by private bus and start you trek there. You go north to Manang following the Marsyangdi River. Manang is situated in the trans-Himalayan region of Nepal and is geographically part of Tibetan Plateau and the people are ethnically Tibetan. After crossing 5300 m Thorungla, you pass through Muktinath, a famous pilgrimage site for Hindus and Buddhists and visit the beautiful villages of Kagbeni (ethnic Tibetan) and Marfa (Thakali). Walking along Kali Gandaki valley via Tukuche and Kobang, you also pass through the deepest gorge in the world and emerge south of the main Himalayan Range. The trails pass through Tatopani for fantastic mountain views and descend to Birethanti and take a bus to Pokhara. The trek takes three week. This has been divided into several parts to enable those with less time or those who are less physically fit to trek in peak of the trekking season in mid-November, trails in this period will be full of western trekkers.

If you are planning to trek the entire Annapurna Circuit, it is advisable to do it in a counter-clockwise direction. It means that you start the trek from Dumre/ Besisahar to Manang and then climb and descend to Muktinath and Jomosom instead of the other way around. This is because a higher ascent is required from Jomosom side if you were to do it in a clockwise direction. However, day-to-day description of this trek from Pokhara-Birethanti to Jomosom and Muktinath is given in the following lines just to give you an idea of what you’re likely to encounter.

The total days of your trek could take about 22 days. Thus you enjoy with this remarkable trek of your real life experiences and we hope that you enjoy exploring the world as much as we do in this part of the globe. This is an unforgettable expedition into the most mountainous corner of this part of the world. Greeted by views of the Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges from our first village stop in Bandipur, we have time to take in the breathtaking scenery and local people before immersing ourselves into the spectacular mountain wilderness, ancestral customs and cultural richness this region has to offer. The trekking is challenging but the rewards fulfilling in every way.

This trek travels around the entire Annapurna by visiting the Tibet-like country on the northern slopes of the Himalaya and the dramatic Kali Gandaki Gorge. Much of the trek is through lowland country, but there is one high pass, Thorung La. The pass is not difficult, but this is still a long trek at high elevation. You should be aware that you might have to return to Dumre if it is impossible or dangerous to cross Thorung La because of snow or altitude sickness. There are years when the weather allows it to stay open, but Thorung La is usually snowbound and closed from mid-December to mid-April.

Kathmandu, the colorful capital of Nepal, is a fascinating blend of traditional architecture and symbols of the 20th Century. It is rich artistic and cultural heritage is evident where ornately carved balconies mingle with beautiful shrines and temples. Kathmandu is a fascinating mixture of legend and modern development with a rich artistic and cultural heritage. Narrow lanes lead to small squares and courtyards where ornate carved balconies overlook shrines and temples. Crowded markets and bazaars are the centre of Nepali life where stalls and small hole-in-the-wall shops sell everything from bangles to Buddhas to beetroot. Kathmandu has been a traveler,s centre for many years which is reflected in the international flavor of the bright lights. The real Kathmandu is a contrast. You can walk your way through manic traffic to the peace of the Great Stupa of Tibetan Buddhism at Bodhnath and the nearby holy site of Lord Shiva. Heighten your spiritual awareness as you witness the devotion of the people around the religious sites and feel the pulse of Kathmandu in the colorful local market.

Day 2 Bhaktapur
We take a tour to the small, feudal city of Bhaktapur. This lovely town, almost a time warp of temples and backstreets, has all the commotion and colour of long tradition and rich heritage. Walk on cobbled streets and through narrow alleyways to get an insight into the life of the local people.

Day 3 Bandipur
In the morning, we have a late morning departure followed by a four-hour drive to Bandipur. Our lunch stop on the way will be at a small village close to a large Banyan tree which locals will tell you is the greatest in all the Himalaya. We arrive into Bandipur late afternoon, in time for a pleasant tea-break on the terrace.

Bandipur, located high on a ridge (1000 m) above the road to Pokhara, is a relatively non-touristy town so it is unlikely that we will meet many other travelers there. On a clear day the views of the Annapurna and Manaslu mountain ranges are amazing – as is the warm local welcome. Bandipur is a basic village but the surrounding countryside makes for great walks and all the locals will want to talk to you and guide you on your way.

Bandipur is a charming mountain town surrounded by orange orchards, with views to the north over the ever-rising foothills towards Tibet and beyond, and views to the south that hint of the River Ganges through the haze. Take an afternoon walk around the town enjoying the views and immersing you in the daily life of the locals. Today, we will stay in guesthouse is a restored village mansion in the heart of the old bazaar.

Day 4 Begnas
In the morning, we will take a last stroll around Bandipur before a mid-afternoon departure for picturesque Begnas Lake (approx. 2 hours). We then reach to our hotel by boat (approx. 20 minutes). After settling in at Begnas Lake Resort we take a stoll along the Sundari Danda ridge. The views of the surrounding hills and that of the twin lakes, Rupa and Begnas, from here are simply awe-inspiring. Try your hand at fishing or learn a yoga posture or two. Overnight: Begnas Lake Resort.

Day 5 Pokhara
Your morning is at leisure before we transfer to Pokhara this afternoon.

This afternoon is free to soak up the lakeside ambience and enjoy the numerous shops and bamboo-roofed cafes and bars. Help the Tibetan cause by purchasing your souvenirs at the Tibetan Refugee Camp, and learn about carpet weaving in the all-female carpet factory.

Day 6 Pokhara
There are two main choices. You could take a day-trip by road for a close-up of the mountains and/or a day hike to the World Peace Pagoda. Alternatively, spend a full day at leisure at the Fishtail Lodge and along the shore of Phewa Tal with its numerous handicraft emporia.

Overnight: Fishtail Lodge. One of Pokhara’s most luxurious resorts, Fishtail Lodge has all the facilities of a first-class hotel. The hotel buildings are set in attractive gardens complete with swimming pool and there are superb views of the mountains. The hotel is reached by a rope drawn pontoon or a boat across Phewa Lake.

Days 7-8 Chitwan National Park
Heading down south to the lowlands, we will drive to the Chitwan National Park (approx. 5 hours). Of all the world’s remaining jungles, this is one of the most enchanting. In the afternoon you take an elephant-back ‘rhino-watch’ safari, keeping an eye out for crocodiles, pythons, deer, brilliantly coloured birds and rhinos, even the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger is a possibility with luck on your side. Before dinner enjoy a traditional ’stick dance’ performance by the Tharu tribe. On the morning of day 8 we take a canoe ride along the Rapti River on the park’s boundary, which shelters a quarter of the world’s remaining gharial population. This fish eating crocodile has long been hunted for the supposed aphrodisiac qualities of its snout. Later this morning, we also visit the elephant stable to be briefed on this friendly giant.

Overnight: Chitwan Jungle Lodge.Your accommodation is at Chitwan Jungle Lodge, within the park. To reach it we drive by jeep off-road and across the river. Built from natural materials, the lodge blends perfectly with its jungle surroundings and offers very comfortable facilities. The individual thatch-roof bungalows are tastefully decorated with private solar-powered hot and cold running showers.

Days 9-10 Kathmandu
Your morning on day 9 is at leisure to explore more of the national park before heading to the regional airport for a flight back to Kathmandu. Try to get a seat on the left-hand side of the plane for spectacular views of the mountains. The afternoon is free to relax, or your leader will be able to recommend additional activities.

Overnight: Hotel in Kathmandu. There are no activities planned for day 10 and after breakfast you may depart the hotel at any time. Check-out from the hotel is at 12 noon.

There are several routes to the sanctuary and all will meet at Chomrong. The diversion from the Jomsom and Annapurna Circuit treks is made from Ghorapani to Ghandruk. The route to the Annapurna Sanctuary is occasionally blocked by landslides as well. Our office will check in Ghandruk or Khuldighar or at Lakeside in Pokhara for a report on current trail conditions, and we do not proceed into the sanctuary if there is heavy rain or snow.

From ancient kingdoms to majestic mountain vistas, trek for ten days through the breathtaking Himalaya landscape. Pass through the glaciers, stay on the banks of pristine rivers, cross mountain pastures, dip into natural hot springs and encounter mule trains taking supplies to remote villages. Rest and revive in the mountain tea-houses and meet friendly locals along the way. Time spent in Kathmandu and Pokhara completes the adventure with insights into Nepali culture and tradition.

The trek follows the west side of Jomsoom Valley with magnificent views of the Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri and the Annapurna pass at 4,000 meters and reaches the fabled medieval walled city of Lo Manthang full of cultural and religious heritage. Not suffered from mass influx of tourists, the region has retained its unique and un-spoilt nature by less human impact in the area. The countryside of Lo Manthang is similar to Tibetan plateau with its endless expanses of yellow and gray rolling hills.

Overview of Mustang Trekking

Tour Duration: 17 days or more
Trekking days: 09 days or 12 days
Trek Grade: Moderate
Max altitude: 4090 m (or 4210m on longer itinerary)
Trekking style: Full board Camping
Best Seasons: March to November

The Mustang trek is an exotic tour to unspoiled Tibetan villages on the other side of Nepalese Himalaya bordering with Tibet. The main highlights of Mustang trekking are ancient Tibetan villages, rare medieval Buddhist arts, the exotic culture and the unique beauty of the Himalayan desert.

The people in Mustang are of Tibetan origin, migrated from Tibet centuries ago, and belong to Bhotias and Loba communities. They practice Sakyapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Upper Mustang is perhaps the only place to see Tibetan culture in completely undisturbed state. The houses and monasteries here have medieval look and unique local architecture. Mostly they are built with stone and sun baked mud bricks. People mostly grow potatoes, barley and buck wheat.

A short 25 minute flight takes us from Pokhara to Jomsom. Hiking along the Kaligandaki gorge, the deepest in the world, we head for medieval village of Kagbeni. The trail north of Kagbeni leads to the Mustang trek. Depending on our itinerary, for the next 09 – 12 days we trek through the ancient villages of Samar, Charang and Geling before we reach the capital Lo Manthang at 3750 m. This is a fully supported camping trek. You sleep in the tents and eat the meals prepared by our camp cook. The average walking is 6 hour per day and you carry just your light day pack during the trek.

The trail traverses regions which have remained relatively backward and closed to outside influence. The Sherpa country in the vicinity is an exception, of course, since there have been so many mountaineering expeditions in this area since the early 50’s. This is also second most popular trekking area in Nepal- next only to Annapurna trekking area. It is estimated that about a fifth of trekkers in Nepal visited Everest area recently whereas Annapurna area was the choice of 57 percent.

You can have the experience of the pure air and breathtaking vistas of the Langtang Region- surely home to the Gods. From the hubbub of Kathmandu, take a trek into a remote haven of glacial scenery, spiritual sites, lush valleys and mountain villages. Lightly populated, this area offers true adventure trekking where the accommodation is basic, the food is simple and the time spent here is glorious. Stay on an organic farm, spy out red pandas and form a thousand memories of one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Helambu which is 2,500 m high is mainly inhabited by Sherpas and Tamangs. This place has scenic grandeur and pleasant climate and it has also a long history of Buddhism, culture and ancient tradition. The eye catching view of Mt. Langtang, Mt. Shisapanma, Mt. Gaurishankar, and Panch Pokhari can be seen along enchanting flora and fauna. You will be greeted by ever smiling Sherpa belles. This ideal place for a short trek is known as Trekker’s Paradise. This trek makes a wonderful circuit of the Helambu region. The normal starting point for this trek is Sundarijal because of its proximity to Kathmandu.

The Helambu region is less frequented by trekkers than other regions like that of Everest or Annapurna. The area offers range of cultures. The three main ethnic peoples living in the area are the Tamangs, Bhotias and, Yolmus. The Yolmo people of the Helambu region are often referred to as “Sherpas;” however, neither their languages, customs, nor structure resemble that of the Solu-Khumbu Sherpas of Everest. They are thought to be more akin to Langtang Bhotias, and may also have originated from the Kyirong area of Tibet, just over the border. Their religion and monasteries show their rich Buddhist culture. At lower elevations along the edges of the park, other mid hill tribes and castes reside including Bramins, Chhetries, Newars and some Gurungs.

Your tour to the Everest Base Camp could be an unforgettable expedition in your life through trekking towards the highest mountainous corner of the world.

The Everest Trek is well known because of the name Everest gives you a chance of viewing the highest mountains and essentially one ethnic group of Nepal- the Sherpa-especially if you fly to Lukla and you trek from there. You will actually be flying high and staying high thought this exiting tour. Unlike in Annapurna circuit, where you will be going around the peaks and be in the Tibetan Plateau, here you will remain on the southern slope of the main Himalayan Range. For the first time, it was conquered by Ten-zing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953. Everest has traditionally been the ultimate goal for mountaineers. Today, the hard-core trekkers seek the challenge of reaching the mountaineer’s Base Camp. Flying in to Lukla, we explore the mountains and valleys around the towering peak, while learning about the traditions and cultures of the famous Sherpa people along your trekking routes.

The Everest Base Camp trek is the most famous trekking route in the world. Hence this tour might be one unique lifetime opportunity for you to see some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable. Nepal is a fascinating country and the trek gives an insight into the lives and culture of the Sherpa people. Sunrise on the snow capped peaks above the Khumbu Glacier is an unforgettable sight from the summit of Kala Pattar. This trek is one for the lover of high places and those wanting to push themselves to the limit. It is a difficult challenge and not to be taken lightly with generally well graded paths, but some tougher sections along the Khumbu Glacier.

The trek to the base camp at foot of Mount Everest takes two weeks at a minimum. This is not as easy as trekking in the Pokhara area as the trail traverses regions which have remained relatively backward and closed to outside influence. The total number of tourists in the area actually exceeded the total population of Khumbu area north of Lukla.

If you time is limited, the trek can be shortened by flying between Kathmandu and Lukla, only a few days walk from the Base Camp. However, you wants to walk from a place Jiri to Lukla, it would take about 5-6 days to reach Lukla. Jiri is well connected with highways from Kathmandu.

Otherwise, you can fly directly to Lukla and the adventure begins as we land at its tiny airstrip. If you only intend to fly one way, it is better to walk to Lukla as this gives a greater acclimatization to the altitude. If you fly directly from Kathmandu at 1500 meters to Lukla at 2800 meters and then start climbing to the Base Camp at 5340 meters, great care must be taken to acclimatize yourself sufficiently. Flights to Lukla are now available on a regular basis. You can spend several days trekking through the homelands of the Sherpa people among their villages and Buddhist monasteries, with distant views of Everest and neighboring Ama Dablam, considered by many to be among the most beautiful mountains in Nepal. A day is spent at Namche Bazaar, the bustling market town in the heart of Sherpa country, and at Pheriche a cluster of houses set among the high summer grazing pastures of the region. These rest days allow your time to explore further and to acclimatize, an important factor in your enjoyment of the trek. Those who have fully acclimatized may trek to the Everest Base Camp but without doubt, the highlight for most will be the awe-inspiring views which unfold from the summit of Kala Pattar – the chaotic ice sculptures of the Khumbu Glacier, Nuptse and the south-west face of Everest itself. Not forgetting, of course, the personal sense of achievement that many experience at the end of their trek, when it is all over and we fly back to Kathmandu.
