Everest Base Camp

Nepal HimalayasYou are welcomed to this beautiful country, Nepal where you can enjoy exploring your expedition to the highest corner of the earth. Your tour to the Everest Base Camp could be an unforgettable expedition in your life through trekking towards the highest mountainous corner of the world.

The Everest Trek is well known because of the name Everest gives you a chance of viewing the highest mountains and essentially one ethnic group of Nepal- the Sherpa-especially if you fly to Lukla and you trek from there. You will actually be flying high and staying high thought this exiting tour. Unlike in Annapurna circuit, where you will be going around the peaks and be in the Tibetan Plateau, here you will remain on the southern slope of the main Himalayan Range. For the first time, it was conquered by Ten-zing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953. Everest has traditionally been the ultimate goal for mountaineers. Today, the hard-core trekkers seek the challenge of reaching the mountaineer’s Base Camp. Flying in to Lukla, we explore the mountains and valleys around the towering peak, while learning about the traditions and cultures of the famous Sherpa people along your trekking routes.

The Everest Base Camp trek is the most famous trekking route in the world. Hence this tour might be one unique lifetime opportunity for you to see some of the most breathtaking scenery imaginable. Nepal is a fascinating country and the trek gives an insight into the lives and culture of the Sherpa people. Sunrise on the snow capped peaks above the Khumbu Glacier is an unforgettable sight from the summit of Kala Pattar. This trek is one for the lover of high places and those wanting to push themselves to the limit. It is a difficult challenge and not to be taken lightly with generally well graded paths, but some tougher sections along the Khumbu Glacier.

The trek to the base camp at foot of Mount Everest takes two weeks at a minimum. This is not as easy as trekking in the Pokhara area as the trail traverses regions which have remained relatively backward and closed to outside influence. The Sherpa country in the vicinity is an exception, of course, since there have been so many mountaineering expeditions in this area since the early 50’s. This is also second most popular trekking area in Nepal- next only to Annapurna trekking area. It is estimated that about a fifth of trekkers in Nepal visited Everest area recently whereas Annapurna area was the choice of 57 percent. The total number of tourists in the area actually exceeded the total population of Khumbu area north of Lukla.

If you time is limited, the trek can be shortened by flying between Kathmandu and Lukla, only a few days walk from the Base Camp. However, you wants to walk from a place Jiri to Lukla, it would take about 5-6 days to reach Lukla. Jiri is well connected with highways from Kathmandu.

Gokyo EverestOtherwise, you can fly directly to Lukla and the adventure begins as we land at its tiny airstrip. If you only intend to fly one way, it is better to walk to Lukla as this gives a greater acclimatization to the altitude. If you fly directly from Kathmandu at 1500 meters to Lukla at 2800 meters and then start climbing to the Base Camp at 5340 meters, great care must be taken to acclimatize yourself sufficiently. Flights to Lukla are now available on a regular basis. You can spend several days trekking through the homelands of the Sherpa people among their villages and Buddhist monasteries, with distant views of Everest and neighboring Ama Dablam, considered by many to be among the most beautiful mountains in Nepal. A day is spent at Namche Bazaar, the bustling market town in the heart of Sherpa country, and at Pheriche a cluster of houses set among the high summer grazing pastures of the region. These rest days allow your time to explore further and to acclimatize, an important factor in your enjoyment of the trek. Those who have fully acclimatized may trek to the Everest Base Camp but without doubt, the highlight for most will be the awe-inspiring views which unfold from the summit of Kala Pattar – the chaotic ice sculptures of the Khumbu Glacier, Nuptse and the south-west face of Everest itself. Not forgetting, of course, the personal sense of achievement that many experience at the end of their trek, when it is all over and we fly back to Kathmandu.
