The walk up to the Annapurna Base Camp is a classic walk right into the heart of the mountains. The walk ends at a point where you are virtually surrounded by soaring Himalayan peaks. At one time, this trek was a real expedition into an uninhabited wilder¬ness area, but now there are a string of lodges that operate during the trekking season. The return trip takes 12 to 16 days and the walk to the base camp can be tacked on as a side trip from the Jomsom or Annapurna Circuit treks.
There are several routes to the sanctuary and all will meet at Chomrong. The diversion from the Jomsom and Annapurna Circuit treks is made from Ghorapani to Ghandruk. The route to the Annapurna Sanctuary is occasionally blocked by landslides as well. Our office will check in Ghandruk or Khuldighar or at Lakeside in Pokhara for a report on current trail conditions, and we do not proceed into the sanctuary if there is heavy rain or snow.
From ancient kingdoms to majestic mountain vistas, trek for ten days through the breathtaking Himalaya landscape. Pass through the glaciers, stay on the banks of pristine rivers, cross mountain pastures, dip into natural hot springs and encounter mule trains taking supplies to remote villages. Rest and revive in the mountain tea-houses and meet friendly locals along the way. Time spent in Kathmandu and Pokhara completes the adventure with insights into Nepali culture and tradition.
